The lightsaber is an iconic cinematic artifact. Those who are familiar with Star Wars know that the lightsaber is the tool of choice for the Jedi, an order of justice seeking, peacekeepers known as “Knights.” The lightsaber is also many children’s dream toy. A sword that lights up and allows children to pretend to be Jedi is irresistible. At its core, a toy lightsaber is simply a light that is powered by a battery. This allows us to build our own and also affords us an opportunity to teach children about simple circuits.
